Free Keyword Research Tools For SEO & PPC
Keyword research is such an important part of the SEO, PPC, and general digital marketing strategy process.
Some tools within the digital marketing sphere can be a bit pricey. As a digital marketing agency, we don’t include our tool costs in our pricing – meaning you benefit from our budgets!
But there are also plenty of valuable free keyword research tools out there that you can use to get going.
Top Free Keyword Research Tools
SEMRush is a powerful tool where you can come up with new keyword ideas with its “keyword magic” tool, and the “keyword GAP” tool that looks at your competitor’s data and compares it to your own.
Our favourite tool within SEMRush is “keyword overview”. In this, you input your chosen keywords and it will then give you data such as; search volume, keyword difficulty, competition, and more.
This type of data can help you make decisions on whether to target certain keywords, or if it just won’t work for you. All of this, for free – but of course with paid options available too.
Google Ads Keyword Planner
Google Ads Keyword Planner is a tool that can actually help with your PPC keyword research as well!
Available in your Google Ads account, just input your website URL and it will list out keywords that are relevant to your site, and allow you to input any initial keyword ideas you might have.
It will then generate keyword ideas for you, their search volume, and competition data.
This is a really handy tool, but we would suggest using a combination of other tools such as SEMRush so you can get even more information and data for your keywords!
Answer The Public
Now, Answer The Public is a really interesting tool that can give you some fantastic inspiration for new keywords to include on your website. All you have to do is simply input into the search box a topic – probably the topic your website is related to – and then it will do a quick search and voila!
You’ll be provided with a fantastic selection of data full of questions and queries people have been searching about for your chosen topic.
It’s a fantastic way to generate keyword and content ideas – with endless possibilities.
Head on over to Google Trends and type in some words or topics related to your service or product.
The tool will show you how that search term performs across multiple countries and time scales – and even lets you sort it by the likes of web search, news search, image search, Google shopping & YouTube search.
It will show you ‘interest over time’ which shows you when the keyword and phrase might trend and therefore when you might want to focus your efforts on.
And, to help your content ideas, it will show related topics and related queries. Bargain!
That’s all for our top 4, free keyword research tools. Handy right? And all for absolutely free!
Why not go ahead and give them all a go so you can see which you like the best – and then take your SEO to the next level?
