What is GA4?

GA4 is the successor to Google’s Universal Analytics; it’s more GDPR-friendly, more robust, better for visualisation, and generally more kickass than the current version of Analytics. The problem is, like buying a new car, all the buttons do different things!

Why do you need to migrate to GA4?

From the 1st July2023, Universal Analytics stopped registering new traffic – so, within the platform, it’ll look like your site’s suddenly disappeared from the internet.

While not being able to see your traffic might not seem like such a problem, it means you can’t accurately measure what’s working, can’t accurately serve ads, and can’t make good strategy decisions.

What’s more, “at some point after” the 1st July – likely around 6 months – Google will also be removing all historic data from Universal Analytics! This could mean years of hard-earned data thrown into the void.

If you handle things sooner, though, you can ensure you keep a record of historic data so you can look back and analyse performance over time.
