YouTube is quickly becoming more and more integrated with standard search results and can play a particularly important role in your SEO performance and strategy.
To maximise the SEO benefits of YouTube its best practice to create your own YouTube channel where you can upload all of your relevant videos for your users to find and link to.
It can be a bit of a pain to set up a channel and there are a number of things to ensure you cover off in order to maximise the effort you put in. Here are our tips to do so:
1. Remember the ‘s
Remember that YouTube appends ‘s on the end of you channels name. i.e. if you call it “luke’s” channel, YouTube will call it “luke’s’s” channel which is not ideal! Where possible, call the channel the same as your business name. If not go with something relevant but creative.
2. Get a link back to your website
Make sure that you put a link back to your site within the settings. This will help any users who navigate to your video content to get to your site.
3. Create a decent background
Just like your website should stand out and engage people, so should any of your web assets such as a YouTube channel. This is an extension of your site and your brand so make sure it looks great too!
4. Tag videos for search
Google owns Youtube… as such Youtube videos get excellent index rates on SERP’s so make sure you tag them with key words that people actually search for. It is a great way to get your terms high up on the Search engine results pages quickly!
5. Embed the videos on your site
Videos add another dimension for user interaction and engagement. Once you have added them to your channel, grab the embed code and put it on your site. This can help Google pick the page up and also keep your users engaged (assuming your video is actually interesting).
Let us know of any good examples of YouTube channels you have seen, please send this on to anyone who you think could benefit!
