On Monday 22nd July, Sleeping Giant Media Managing Director, Luke Quilter, gave a presentation on digital marketing to management staff at the Hospice in the Weald, Pembury, Kent. The Hospice in the Weald provide a wonderful service to people with life limiting illness. They have an In-Patient Unit and Day Therapy Centre in Pembury as well as a Hospice in the Home service. Their services are centered around palliative care and compassionate support for individuals in the Weald area of Kent and East Sussex, and are all provided free of charge.

Luke’s talk gave an overview of digital marketing tools and how charities like the hospice can use various search marketing strategies to enhance their online visibility and, ultimately, increase their donations. Before the event, Luke looked at the charity’s website so that he could give them specific advice on what could be done to drive relevant traffic to their site, for example, one suggestion was to update the headlines on their events page so that they include more key search terms.

Luke also spoke about the rise of social media and how the Hospice in the Weald could use social platforms to benefit their cause. His talk covered the pros and cons of using social media; how social campaigns should be managed and who should manage them; and the challenges that social media present to the hospice in terms of the sensitive and difficult subjects that they want to discuss.

“Digital marketing is continually growing and evolving within the charity sector.” commented Luke. “Although the objective of the charity is not to sell anything it is still important to get a message across to its supporters. Digital is a great way to communicate this message and hopefully presentations like this outline some of the opportunities charities have to do this effectively.”

We received some great feedback from the Hospice after the event. Danny Windsor, the service improvement manager, said: “Sleeping Giant Media was exactly what we needed at this junction in our digital marketing campaign. A good reinforcement as to how the industry works, and what we can do to stay ahead. Great people, great messages.”
