On 10th October each year, the World Health Organisation celebrates World Mental Health Day. This year’s theme is Dignity in Mental Health – Psychological & Mental Health First Aid for All, a concept which was first recognised in 1945.
This theme is important as many people will experience physical health problems/injuries during their lifetime which are dealt with in a hospital setting; in comparison, a majority – 1 in 4 adults in fact, will also suffer from mental health problems at least once during their lifetime. Yet, many mental health sufferers don’t seek help for their problem like they would a physical injury.
How can you get involved with World Mental Health Day online? You can start by helping us with our charity pledges! This is an extremely fitting way to officially announce the start of our new charity year where Demelza House and Mind are our chosen charities!
Folkestone and District Mind is our local Mind branch, which gives advice and support to hundreds of individuals in the Shepway area who are suffering from mental distress. Folkestone and District Mind was first established in May 1988, and currently: offers a range of services that help distressed individuals merge back into the local community, funding to aid wellbeing and recovery, and raising awareness of mental health to name a few.
If you’d like to organise a charity event, then our charity arm Challenge SGM can help you organise it! If you have any cool ideas for events, let us know and we can get involved! Just get in touch with us here by using the contact form on the right-hand side. In the meantime, check out our JustGiving page!
