Tool of the Month: Screaming Frog: Log File Analyser
Last month, Chris kicked things off with our Tool of the Month series and introduced us to WASP.inspector. Now, Mersudin Forbes, our Client Services Director, wants a shot at Tool of the Month!
His tool? Screaming Frog’s Log File Analyser
What is it?
The Log File Analyser allows you to upload your server log files, check crawling by search engine bots, and analyse your data to gain SEO insight into how search engine crawlers actually navigate your site.
What can you do with it?
• Identify Crawled URLs
• Discover Crawl Frequency
• Find Broken Links & Errors
• Audit Redirects
• Improve Crawl Budget
• Identify Large & Slow Pages
• Find Uncrawled & Orphan Pages
• Combine & Compare Any Data
*Considerations: Analysis capacity is based on your computer’s hard drive capacity, as stated by Screaming Frog*.
Why should you use it?
The tool offers valuable insight into your website’s performance, which you wouldn’t normally get from any other crawlers. It tells you what is actually going on with using your own server data.
From finding out which pages are being crawled that are not in your navigation, to discovering how frequently your core pages are being crawled to save server capacity or to improve crawling frequency, this is the perfect tool to use.
Currently, there are two versions available, a free version and a paid one. It’s free for the first 1000 log events, but if you want unlimited, that’ll set you back £99 a year.
