A GIANT hat-trick! ????
On the 20th June, ten of the GIANT team took to the Kent Event Centre in Maidstone to celebrate our finalist positions in three categories of the Kent Excellence in Business Awards (KEiBA).
We were fortunate enough to be finalists and proud of the fact that our work had been recognised to such a level. So imagine the joy when, on the evening, we were announced as winners in all three categories too!
We scooped up the golden (well, green) awards in the following:
- Employer of the Year
- Apprenticeship of the Year – Reuben Elman
- Customer Service Award
After a hiatus from award entering, looking to focus on other areas of the business, we were incredibly proud to be recognised for the areas we have worked so hard to advance.
Brand & Marketing Manager, Danny Windsor, explains why we took a bit of a break and how award wins are more than just a nice pat on the back for a year of hard work:
“It’s been an absolute honour to pick up all three awards at this years KEiBA, the best thing about this is that it isn’t luck or a fluke. It’s two years in the planning.
We took the decision last year to remove ourselves from local industry awards. This was a.) so we could be dedicated to making sure the internal structures of the business would allow for our growth plans and b.) It gave us time to reevaluate awards as part of our overall strategy (as well as letting Giant Campus have its year in the spotlight).
We wanted to come back with a clean sweep of awards and the work the guys have dedicated to the business in the last 24 months means we feel these awards are very deserved. We are super proud.
Awards are a big part of a service led businesses marketing strategy. Recognition for things such as customer service and employer of the year allows us to ‘prove’ our worth to potential new clients or even potential new GIANT’s. They provide a great achievement and recognition of our people and allow some of the unsung heroes in the business to be sung about.”
With Luke Quilter, CEO adding,
“We are over the moon. Last year we took a break from awards, which I feel allowed us to focus on making some significant changes that have really helped us in this year’s awards.
I am really proud of the team, and the awards are a representation of the hard work and dedication they have been putting in over the last two years.”
Winning Employer & Customer Service of the Year allowed us to shout out about such things as our recruitment process, our internal benefits for staff and the way we motivate our teams to deliver such awesome, award-winning customer service. These wins we will use to inspire and advance our recruitment, having recently launched our Giant Trainee Programme too. Which, in turn, will mean our growing team can deliver more for clients.
Our mission statement is to “Delight our clients by empowering our people” and these awards reinforce this message to us, our clients and partners.
Mersudin Forbes, Client Services Director had this to say:
“Winning this award is an honour for us. Mixing outstanding technical ability with excellent customer service is what makes Sleeping Giant Media one of the top agencies in Kent and will continue to push us forward.”
We were also winners in the Apprenticeship of the Year category, which rewarded both our apprenticeship model and our very own GIANT apprentice Reuben Elman – known to some as GIANTelf.
Whilst Reuben enjoyed some well-deserved rest after a lot of hard work completing his apprenticeship, the award on the night was collected by his manager and mentor, Lizzi Hill:
“We were absolutely overjoyed to bring home the award for Apprenticeship of the Year and are beyond proud of Reuben! We believe that investing in young people and fresh talent is a hugely important part of Sleeping Giant Media – they bring new ideas and perspectives and really help to drive the business forward. As his manager, I can honestly say that Reuben is the perfect example of just how successful apprenticeships/traineeships can be for businesses and we are so excited to see what his future holds.”
Reuben has been completing his apprenticeship through QA Apprenticeships whilst working with us full-time. His skills coach, Dean Watson praised Reuben on this award:
“I am delighted that Reuben has won this award. Reuben was a dedicated apprentice who was committed to completing his apprenticeship and qualification and is totally deserved – well done Reuben.”
Reuben has now been hired in as a permanent member of the GIANT team, progressing further than the usual steps our new starters take – a testament to his abilities, success and brilliant fit within the GIANT team.
As mentioned by Danny, it was great for some of the unsung heroes of the GIANT team to be sung about, but it was also a great way to promote the work we do to advance our team members from a variety of skill sets and approaches.
We have now officially launched a Giant Trainee Programme which accepts applications from those who are college or university graduates or those looking for a fresh start that otherwise have no experience in digital marketing. The programme will train those successful in all areas of agency life, with potential opportunities to stay on as members of the GIANT team at the end of the 12-month programme.
