7 Reasons Why Google Is The Search Engine Of Choice

When you reach for your phone or laptop to investigate or research something, which search engine do you normally pick?

More often than not, it’s Google.

Google accounts for 82% of the market share of leading search engines worldwide and processes roughly 8.5 billion searches per day. That’s a lot of search queries!

But, why is Google the search engine of choice for most users? Let’s explore the reasons why customers, marketers and businesses continue to rely on Google for search query results and marketing services.

Search result speed is fast

In general, Google is very quick at bringing back results. They are able to deliver millions of results in 0.19 of a second. This is mostly down to their technical infrastructure – they use a large number of algorithms called “ranking systems” in order to provide users with fast and accurate search results.

Interesting fact: Google once had a fire at one of their server warehouses and although it destroyed everything hardware-wise, their service wasn’t impacted at all. Nice work, Google.

Google has a larger index of web pages

According to Google, the search engine has hundreds of billions of web pages in their index, more than 100,000,000 gigabytes. In comparison, Microsoft Bing has roughly 8 to 14 billion web pages.

Additionally, Microsoft Bing updates their index less frequently than Google, so the results may not be as up-to-date.

Whilst Microsoft Bing is a useful search engine in its own right, the accuracy and relevancy that Google provides makes it a prime choice for users and businesses alike.

Search results are relevant

Google’s search algorithm is very sophisticated, taking into account many factors and signals, such as words within a query, relevance and usability of pages, expertise of sources, and the location and settings of a user.

In addition to this, Google also updates their algorithm regularly to keep up with ever-evolving digital behaviours. Ultimately, with more data and algorithm updates, they can make more informed decisions and continue to increase the relevancy of search results.

The branding is recognisable

You can’t overlook this aspect of Google. The logo, colours… They are instantly recognisable!

Google takes their brand very seriously. They have built a strong, loyal customer base by listening to customer feedback and continuously improving its algorithms. Additionally, they continue to prioritise innovation and user experience. The list of products and services is ever expanding, from Gmail and Drive to Google Maps and Google Ads, not to mention their new AI tool, Gemini. Simplicity and ease of use is at the forefront of their designs.

They have a huge market share

Currently, their market share sits at 82%, but in general it’s always sat between 80 and 90%. This statistic makes it worthwhile for marketers and business owners to focus their efforts on Google as they are more likely to get a better return on investment and time.

Useful tools for targeting and reporting

When looking at the advertising section of these engines (Google Ads/Microsoft Advertising (previously Bing Ads)) there are some notable comparisons. Google has significant targeting options allowing businesses to target specific demographics. Additionally, the search engine’s reach and market share means that businesses are more likely to reach a high number of customers and gain a better return on investment.

Google provides a good toolset for businesses to use, which includes Analytics and WebMaster Tools to name a few.

That being said, it’s recommended to advertise on both Google Ads and Microsoft Advertising to get the best results possible on advertising.

Their help centre is comprehensive

Well, for us, we’re a Google Premier Partner which means we have access to a whole host of benefits and resources to help our clients and partners.

Nevertheless, Google appears to rate customer feedback very high as this is a core part of their branding and values.

For most users though, there won’t be a need to contact their customer support. Google works the majority of the time – lucky us! But, if you do find you are in need of some assistance, their customer help centre on the website is extensive, with a comprehensive FAQ section and easy access to contact details. You’ll likely find the answer to your query or fix on their website without the need to even speak to anyone.
