Are you the kind of person who gives up their seat for the old lady on the bus? Or perhaps you always stop to open the door for someone? Then (aside from being a generally awesome person) you’re a RAKtivist, a Random Acts of Kindness activist. Anyone who believes kindness can change the world, who reminds everyone around them how much love there is in the world, who inspires hope and generosity with their actions as much as their words is a RAKtivist.

Here at Sleeping Giant Media, we have a corporate responsibility in ensuring both our employees and clients are treated with absolute kindness, kindness aiding with the overall company morale. As February 17th marks National Random Acts of Kindness day, we’ve rounded up some top reasons why you should become a RAKtivist

1.) Being kind is less of a headache (literally)

By participating in acts of kindness, your brain makes endorphins which are a natural painkiller. So, the next time you’ve got a headache, be kind as your body will be kind to you in return!

2.) Kindness = love

When you watch acts of kindness, you produce oxytocin – the love hormone which helps lower blood pressure and improve the health of your heart. Oxytocin also reduces stress levels.

3.) What goes around, comes around

Kindness is said to be a catalyst of positive social consequences. By helping others, it allows people to not only like you more, but appreciate you, and offer you gratitude. This will also lead people to return the favour when you need it. Sharing really is caring!

4.) You’ll have less wrinkles if you’re kind…

People who are constantly kind are said to have 23% less of the stress hormone, cortisol, and age two times slower than the average population. So, instead of putting anti-ageing lotions and potions on your face, paint it with a kindness!

5.) Giving the gift of generosity

Thinking of treating yourself for the third time this month? Think again! Research has found that those who spend money on others reported much a greater satisfaction and happiness than those who spend it on themselves.
