Content is king. Well we have probably all heard that before but I am here to tell you that, thanks to Google’s algorithm changes, content is king, queen, jack and the joker.

It is so important that you regularly update content and show Google you are willing to work on your site, providing users with relevant useful content. Of course, this has to be done in conjunction with other areas of SEO in order to really benefit but without the addition of content you will probably find it hard to reach the core positions for your important terms.

How do you work out what content topics to target?

This post will hopefully give you some food for content thought… and focuses on blog content.

Blogs are great. They can give you the perfect opportunity to talk about things in a more conversational manner, as well as talking about subjects that may not be directly related to your business. The sky is really the limit with blogs and you don’t need to stick to formalised topics. Obviously it is preferable that your content is linked to your service offering to help ensure you are attracting the right people to the blog. So by way of a worked example…

To get started list out your services (here is ours):

  • SEO
  • PPC
  • Social
  • Mobile

Now think about some of the specific areas of each (I will pick SEO)

  • Content
  • Linkbuilding
  • Outreach
  • On page SEO
  • Off page SEO
  • Geographic SEO
  • Local SEO
  • and so on…

Then, turn them into a question that your customers would likely ask themselves

  • What is SEO content writing?
  • What is linkbuilding?
  • and so on

Just by applying this approach alone you will have more than enough content to keep you busy for weeks and months to come!

If that wasn’t enough here are some other ideas:

  • Put together a view on something. So if there is a new bit of kit, tech, or legislation in your market that will possibly impact your customers. Write about it. Write your view on it and how you think it will impact things.
  • New product offerings, new starters, new office, these are all great areas to talk about on the blog.
  • As you can see, idea generation isn’t the main issue! Time is always the main problem, but again there are ways to make it more manageable, in true Blue Peter style…. here is one I made earlier
