The Client

Sterlingbuild is an online home improvement shop, specialising in roof windows, skylights, flat roof domes and sun tunnels.

They stock a wide range of well-known brands, including VELUX, FAKRO, FENSTRO and RoofLITE, at fantastic low prices – sold to be installed in public buildings and homes all over the UK, Europe, US and even Australia.

Established in Dover in 2006, the company moved to Folkestone 6 years later to better accommodate the increasing number of homeowners choosing to not move, but improve.

The Brief

Shortly after joining Sterlingbuild, Emma Watkinson, Sterlingbuild’s Web Manager, recruited Sleeping Giant Media to help with their SEO in May 2014. They approached the agency whilst moving offices and launching sub-brands. They already had a good e-commerce website; however, SEO was not an area they had previously focused on.

The overall goal was for Sleeping Giant Media and the client was to help increase sales to utilise the new office space and staff they had acquired.

Due to the business success, Sterlingbuild were then at a point where they could look to upgrade their space again. Looking to develop their warehouse further to manage the workload caused by a high number of sales.

The Campaign

Sleeping Giant Media started with an SEO audit, looking to identify the positives and negatives of the Sterlingbuild website, as well as quick wins and clear opportunities for optimisation. The subsequent months were all about executing the changes identified in the audit. One main area concentrated on was content, making it more keyword targeted for specific products to help the website rank for those product terms.

They then moved onto more technical SEO and concentrated on creative SEO to generate an Audience Engagement Plan. This included strategies for connecting with key influencers to increase engagement on social channels, building relationships with relevant trades so they could leverage those relationships for high quality link building purposes, and creating blog articles that help the site rank for targeted keyword terms.

It was found that social media was key in building relationships for the purpose of the outreach planned.

The Results

May 2014 – April 2015

Between May 2014, and April 2015, all organic traffic had increased by 106% year on year. The number of unique visits has increased by 105%, 71% more pages were viewed and there was 106% more transactions, which, out of these, 85% were unique purchases. Overall, revenue increased by 65%, a truly GIANT result.
