The Client

Established since 1987, Spray Direct is a successful family-run business offering a wide range of spray equipment and accessories for painting and decorating. Its worldwide customer base spans from the individual painter and decorator, to small private business owners and large, blue-chip corporations.

They keep a vast quantity of spraying equipment spares and accessories and offer full hire and service facilities together with an emergency call out service for the industrial paint sprayer.

Spray Direct have been working with Sleeping Giant Media since 2017 on their social media activity, SEO and PPC.

The Brief

Spray Direct were looking to improve their social media activity, driving engagement and brand awareness to help achieve a number of goals and objectives. This paired nicely with SEO and PPC best practices to make the experience all rounded for potential customers.

The Approach

Prior to working with Sleeping Giant Media, the social media activity from Spray Direct were of products and occasional offers – similar to what competitors were doing, realised through competitior analysis being conducted. Whilst Spray Direct’s following were enjoying that content, it got rather repetitive and drop offs were noticed when things got too sales focused.

By looking at the information given to the agency from the client, through things such as the proforma, a Creative Workbook was generated so it was possible to better understand the Spray Direct customer/fan base. With this work in mind, the agency started to test the water by searching for relevant guides and videos related to painting and decorating, particularly spray gun painting, making sure not to overtly show products the business did not sell, or promote competitior websites. This content was then posted alongside products and services posts – helping promote Spray Direct as a source of valuable knowledge and expertise.

A new type of content was then planned with a focus on industry events and news, inspiring people to share their opinion and expertise in the field. All inspiring great engagement across the Spray Direct social media channels, and allowing Spray Direct to position themselves as a sociable business. This work found that the social followings enjoyed more light-hearted and informal posts, opening the opportunity to post industry-related memes, GIFs and videos to drive further engagement.

Working closely with Spray Direct, competitions and paid posts such as product carousel ads were created to promote them. These had major social and monetary success. All combined, the success in growing the social platforms was GIANT.
