Today is #WorldSocialMediaDay and we couldn’t be happier!

Social media really doesn’t get the acclaim it deserves. If you’re a regular watcher of our GIANTThursday videos, you’ll know that we love it. The public gets to see Ryan Reynolds’ Tweets (hilarious), Kim K’s Instagram (hmmm), and lately Snap Maps (did you see that guy caught with his friend’s sister? omg!). Whether you love it or hate it – you’re talking about it.

And that’s what we love! Social media platforms put you in front of people who care. It’s part of the “See, Think, Do, Care” Funnel, topping and tailing it really well. So, as a business, you have to look at how to make it work for you. It can help your consumers find you, get to know you, and see you as the great business that you are. If you don’t do it – people won’t see you or care. Fundamentally, you can’t care about something you don’t know exists!

You see, it’s all about brand recognition. In the blink of an eye, consumers can find your business, your products, your reviews, your history – everything. The good, the bad, and the ugly. You need to leverage Social Media for your good PR.

Ok, so it’s REALLY important. We get that. But how do you do it?

1. Post regularly.

Did you know over 409 million people view more than 20.6 billion pages each month? Think about that statistic. That’s a lot of people just waiting to find you. Post relevant content, post informative stuff, post stuff for fun, add value to what your consumers find on your website. Do this, and they will share you with friends, family, and the random public (the beauty of social media). That’s a lot of potential customers being drawn to your site by a well run social media strategy. Giving your customers something to look forward to keeps them coming back for more.

2. Give back (while getting something yourself)

That’s right – it’s time for a competition! Engage with your consumers by offering them a little something back. Get them to sign up to a newsletter for a 20% discount, offer existing customers a fantastic rate or a freebie, run a contest to win a supermarket sweep deal. One of our Giants was given a free pair of shoes by a website she used regularly, just for being a valued customer. She couldn’t stop talking about it – whether we wanted her to or not. Get people talking about you, sharing your posts, and loving what you do.

3. Care about your customers

How many times have you gone on TripAdvisor when you’re certain about a hotel, only to change your mind down to reviews? Customers rave about good companies, and complain about the bad ones. Fear not, though! There’s a strategy for the bad ones, too. Engage with customers – happy or not – to show that you care about those who put their trust in your business. Good customer service will get people returning time and time again. Get everyone talking about what a lovely bunch you are, even when you’ve made a mistake.

A well run social media account will boost your brand’s visibility in a good way. And essentially, that’s the game. You’ll bring more people in the top of the funnel the more they see you, and the more you care about them, the more they’ll return from the bottom of the funnel right back to the top again.

All those examples at the beginning? They’re talked about. People love them. And people return to them. You’re no different from Kim K – you too could break the internet.

Did we mention we love social media?
