A SGM entourage attended the launch of the Kent Excellence in Business Awards (KEiBA Awards) for 2012 last Thursday evening (12th of Jan).  It was certainly a well attended event, not least because of the spectacular venue choice being the Shepherd Neame brewery in Faversham, with the compelling attraction of free beer! The KEiBA awards are entering their fourth year, and look set to continue to build on their past success, expanding the awards entries and increasing their profile through out Kent, and the UK.

The KEiBA awards are bolstered this year with the addition of new chairman, the affable Geoff Miles, who was the first KEiBA award winner in 2009, and continues to play a significant role in supporting businesses through out Kent. As award winners in 2011, we’re fully supporting both KEiBA and the Kent Foundation this year, and looking forward to perhaps picking up a win at the KEiBA awards gala evening on June 28th 2012.

Luke Quilter, the MD of Sleeping Giant Media and winner of KEiBA young entrepreneur of the year 2012 discussed the benefits of entering the awards at the launch evening.

Another year over and nearly a new one just begun. With logs on the fire and gifts on the tree it was a time… ok I can’t keep that up for the whole post! Friday the 16th of December saw our second ever Xmas party here at Sleeping Giant Media, where we went to the Tiger inn Stouting. Needless to say we all ate and drank far too much, so without further ado here is the photo evidence that will no doubt haunt us in later years. (The jumpers were a theme)

The Kent Excellence in Business Awards launch event is being held at the Shepherd Neame Brewery in Faversham on 12th January 2012. So, a not to be missed opportunity to visit a brewery, but also a great way to celebrate our win last year with a chance for Luke to speak about his experience as the KEiBA Young Entrepreneur of The Year. Its been a hugely positive year for Luke, as well as a big boost for Sleeping Giant Media’s profile. We’ve picked up several significant new clients, and continue to expand the SGM team with a highly optimistic outlook for 2012.

KEiBA has grown significantly in size and stature, now in its fourth year, it’s increasingly well recognised outside of Kent as a leading business award. The judging process this year will doubtless be equally as rigorous, and the number and quality of businesses entering are set to continue to grow. We’re looking forward to putting all our efforts into winning the Best New Business, Best Business from the Creative Industries and Entrepreneur of the year awards for 2012!

Heather Elder joins Sleeping Giant Media from SAGA. Heather has gained a huge amount of past experience working for Holiday Extras and SAGA and we are excited to have her join as the eighth member of the team. Heather has worked within the online marketing environment, and has a great understanding of PPC, SEO and Social media as well as developing her offline marketing experience at SAGA.

Heather will be working as an account executive within Sleeping Giant Media bringing her knowledge and experience to our clients accounts.

Heather joins Sleeping Giant Media only a month after Mersudin Forbes joined the team to help bolster the Social marketing activities within the business.

Heathers first day is on the 31st of October.

Sleeping Giant Media MD – Luke Quilter has been selected on the board of trustees for the Kent Foundation for Young Entrepreneurs. The foundation works with entrepreneurs under the age of 30 throughout Kent, helping them to make a start within the business world.

Luke is eager to help the foundation continue its good work and had this to say:

“The foundation offers a great service and provides essential information to the young business community. It is quite daunting setting up your own business and there are many pitfalls that have to be avoided to get it off the ground. The foundation can help steer young entrepreneurs around these pitfalls and give them the best chance of success.”
